The running community and the country are in mourning for the victims of Monday's vicious attack on life and country. This unspeakable act of terror has shaken us to the core once again.
I hope that all of you and your family members are safe today and pray for the families who have lost loved ones, and those left with such physical and emotional scars. Our thoughts are also with the BAA organization and running organizations in general as we process this information and plan for the future.
The Keeping the Beat race will still go on. I have spoken with the authorities and we will proceed as planned. We will have local and State police as usual, and emergency personnel will be onsite as in previous years.
We must fight terror with love and kindness for our fellow man and show these children that life goes on despite such horrific act.
The Keeping the Beat and I wish you a safe week and we look forward to seeing on Sunday.
Join us on Sunday April 21st 2013, for third "Keeping the Beat"
This fantastic 5K Run/Walk, Fun Run and Toddler Dash started in 2011 as a fundraiser for Boston
Children's Hospital Pacemaker/ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) Camp.
On this beautiful warm sunny Sunday we raised over $18,000! As a first time Race Director, I was amazed that over 400 runners/walkers and kids registered for this unknown race. Hundreds more participated on this family fun filled day.
In 2012 we raised $15,000 which allowed 56 kids to got enjoy camp last Fall.
As costs go up we need to increase our fundraising goal n 2013 to $30,000 to cover all costs of camp.
A family friendly race
In addition to the 5K race/walk, the 1K Fun Run, and the toddler dash on the beach
makes this event perfect for the whole family. Everyone can participate on the race and activities offered, as well as enjoy the live family oriented entertainment.
Activities
Seaside Kites offers kites making opportunities for the kids, which they can fly on the beach right away. Proceeds from kite making go to the Camp Fund.
In 2012 we had several volunteer Kite Buggies drivers who took the kids on some unforgettable rides on the beach!
Face painting was a hit! There were "cats", butterflies and warriors showing off their really cool designs.
Music
"On Common Ground", four amazing local musicians who started the band to perform at the 2011 Keeping the Beat, provide spectacular moments of musical fun! They now perform at local restaurants and will perform again in 2013 featuring the new vocalist. We can not wait to see the renewed band! Prizes and donations
A Raffle with an amazing array of generous in-kind donations, also takes place. We always need donations and invite you to contact us if you or your business is able to make a an in-kind donation. The raffle is another way to raising the funds needed to send the kids to camp. Here are the guidelinesof how your corporate donation will be recognized.
A flat beautiful course along the beach
5K race is chip timed, out and back

The DCR's Nantasket Beach is the absolutely perfect venue for this family friendly race. Miles of sandy beach, calm blue water (although too cold to swim in early Spring), and just enough wind to fly those kites. With so many restaurants with delicious food, from American, Italian, Asian and the best breakfast that I know of for miles around, Hull has some of the best food served on the South Shore.
Register early to guarantee a spot on the race and score the free T-shirt. This year a free shirt is only guaranteed to the first 500 paying registrants.
